After Mahsa Amini was killed in custody of Iran’s morality police in September 2022, protests erupted all over Iran. The oppressive government reacted with massive arrests, shooting demonstrators, and executing many of the detained. Despite that brutal response, Iranian women and girls are risking their lives fighting forces of the Islamic Republic every day. This is a unique historic movement initiated and led by women. It goes beyond borders. The uprising has no manifesto other than “Women, Life, Freedom”. The slogan is an expression of the main ideas that drive the movement towards a society with gender equality, life with dignity, and civil liberties.
